BIRD WATCHING
Amazing views. And that’s just our birds.
With its lush parks, glorious trails, forests and streaming waters, there’s no better place to birdwatch than Kelowna, BC. This area of the Okanagan Valley offers some of the best shorebirding, gull-watching and urban birding experiences in BC. Kelowna, plays host to hundreds of birds in dozens of varieties. Better still, their locations are all within easy access – either by bus or taxi within city limits, or just a short drive from the city.

Chinchester Bird Sanctuary
From Rutland Road turn west onto Fitzpatrick Road; continue along Fitzpatrick about 500 meters, then turn south onto Chinchester Court. Proceed to the end of the road and park; a series of trails guide you through the ponds.
Carney Pond
To reach Carney Pond turn north of Adams Road from Sexsmith Road. Travel north along Adams Road for 1 km; park by the large brown and white building and walk across the road, through the field, over the railroad track to the pond.
Maude – Roxby Bird Sanctuary
The walkway through this bird sanctuary is accessible at the end of Francis Ave. To access the sanctuary from downtown Kelowna take Abbott Street south to Francis Ave; turn left onto Francis and park at the end of the road. Sorry, no dogs.
Munson’s Pond
This is a relatively small pond that is sometimes covered with waterbirds. Take Benvoulin to Munson’s Road traveling west until you reach the pond. Much of the area surrounding the pond is private property so please respect this area.
Robert Lake
At the north end of Curtis Road, just off Valley Road, Robert Lake is one of the best shorebirding areas in the interior of BC.
